Terms of Use

Musaic Studio ("Musaic", "the app") is made by Marco Dürrwächter, trading as lìkwest, a one-person operation in Germany. These terms govern your use of the app and of likwest.com. By installing or using Musaic you accept them. If you don't, please don't use the app.

Musaic is distributed through Apple's App Store, so Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to you as well. Where that agreement and these terms conflict, Apple's takes precedence.

What you get

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Musaic on the Apple devices you control, for as long as these terms are kept. No account and no sign-up is involved.

Musaic is free to use. Multi-layer recording, all three modes (Mosaic, Live Studio and Twin), the audio FX rack, the timeline and every built-in and Air instrument are free; video export in the free tier carries a watermark. Musaic Pro removes the watermark and adds synced lyrics with automatic transcription.

Musaic Pro subscription

• Musaic Pro costs €2.99 per month or €24.99 per year. Prices in other regions are set by Apple's price tiers and shown in the app before you buy.
• The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before each period ends.
• Apple is the seller. Payment, billing, tax and receipts are handled by Apple through the App Store - I never see or store your payment details.
• You manage and cancel the subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your device, not inside Musaic. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, at reportaproblem.apple.com. I cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases myself.
• If a price changes, Apple notifies you and asks for your consent before the next renewal is charged.

Your projects and recordings stay yours

Everything you record, import, write or arrange in Musaic remains your content. I claim no ownership of it and no licence to use it. Projects are stored on your device (see the Privacy Policy) - I have no access to them, which also means I cannot recover them for you if you lose your device or delete the app. Export what you care about.

Rights in the music you record

Musaic is a recording tool, not a licence. You are responsible for having the rights to whatever you record, import or publish - covers, samples, backing tracks, lyrics, and anyone else who appears in your shots. That applies in particular when you upload a video to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or anywhere else. Those platforms have their own rules, and they are between you and them.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

• use Musaic for anything illegal, or to create content that infringes someone else's rights;
• record or publish people without their consent where the law requires it;
• reverse-engineer, decompile or modify the app, except to the extent that mandatory law allows it;
• resell, rent out or sublicense the app, or bypass the Pro paywall;
• abuse the lyrics service - for example by automating bulk requests or using it for material unrelated to your own recordings.

If a licence is misused in a way that clearly breaks these rules, I may suspend access to the affected service.

The lyrics service

Automatic lyric transcription runs on a server (api.lyrics.likwest.com) and requires a working internet connection. Transcription is machine-generated: it will get words wrong, and there is no guarantee of accuracy, availability or a particular turnaround time. Everything else in Musaic works offline.

Beta features

Features marked beta in the app - currently Twin Mode and the Air instruments - are provided as work in progress. They may behave inconsistently, change, or be removed.

Changes to the app

Musaic is under active development. Features may be added, changed or retired, and support for older iOS versions or devices may end. If a change removes something that Musaic Pro was sold for, you can cancel the subscription for the following period.

Warranty and liability

The app is provided with the care of a one-person operation, but without a guarantee that it is free of errors or that it fits a particular purpose beyond what is described. Your statutory rights as a consumer remain untouched.

I am liable without limitation for damages caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under the German Product Liability Act. In cases of slight negligence I am liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation (one whose fulfilment makes proper performance possible at all and on whose observance you may regularly rely), and in that case only for the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded.

In particular, I am not liable for lost recordings or projects - keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Ending it

You can stop using Musaic at any time by deleting the app; cancel any active subscription separately through the App Store. These terms end when you stop using the app, except for the sections that by their nature survive (rights in your content, liability).

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes and the new version is posted on this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. Substantial changes affecting an active subscription will be pointed out in the app.

Governing law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you also keep the mandatory protections of the law of the country you live in. I am not obliged, and not willing, to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
