Privacy Policy

Raw Bio Signals does not collect any data. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. We operate no server that your recordings pass through.

Your recordings stay on your iPhone

Everything the app records - sensor signals, the manifest describing them, and the export bundles it builds - is written to your device's own storage. It stays there until you delete it or delete the app.

Export goes where you send it

The app can deliver a recording to a destination you configure: your iCloud Drive, a folder in the Files app (which may be provided by Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box or Nextcloud), an S3-compatible bucket, or a WebDAV server. Those are your accounts and your servers. The credentials you enter are stored in the iPhone's Keychain and are used for nothing but that upload. With no destination configured, nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Bluetooth, microphone, motion

Bluetooth is used to connect to your own sensors. The microphone and the motion sensors are two of the signals the app can record; both are off by default and are switched on by you under More > Sensors. They are captured only while a recording is running, and what they capture is treated like every other stream - written to your device, sent nowhere.

The microphone is not recorded continuously. What is stored for the whole night is a loudness envelope: three numbers about sixteen times a second (loudness, zero-crossing rate, and a flag for loud passages). The sound itself is not kept, and speech cannot be reconstructed from those numbers. Around loud passages the app additionally keeps the audio itself as a short uncompressed clip - mono, 16 kHz, at most thirty seconds each, and at most 200 megabytes for a whole recording; past that only the envelope continues. Those clips live in the recording on your device like any other file, listed in an index.csv beside them, and you can delete them with it.

Apple Health

With your permission, the app reads heart rate and blood oxygen measured by your Apple Watch so those samples can be recorded alongside your other sensors, and starts a workout session so the watch keeps measuring during a recording. Health data is never written back, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone.

The live dashboard

While a live session runs, the app serves a dashboard to other devices on the same local network and announces itself over Bonjour, so a browser on your laptop can find it. That traffic stays on your Wi-Fi. It starts only when you start a live session and stops when you stop it.

No analytics, no tracking

The app contains no analytics SDK and no third-party SDK at all, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not track you across apps or websites. Apple's privacy manifest for this app declares zero collected data types.

Children

Raw Bio Signals is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.

Your rights

There is no personal data for us to hold, export or delete. Deleting the app removes all local data from your device; anything you exported yourself stays wherever you sent it, under your control.

Not a medical device

The app records signals. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor any condition, and nothing it shows is medical advice.
